Is Lipstick Lethal?

Ok this is scary. I just came across this on YAHOO this morning:

The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics said tests on 33 brand-name red lipsticks by the Bodycote Testing Group in Santa Fe Spring, California, found that 61 percent had detectable lead levels of 0.03 to 0.65 parts per million (ppm).

Click here to watch the FOX News Broadcast from last night.

Take a peep and tell me what you think. Are you worried? Will this stop you using lipstick?

Behnaz Sarafpour: Spring Look

Behnaz opened her New York Fashion Week show with organic, waffle-weave cotton pieces printed with leaf designs using eco-friendly dying techniques. There were ombré pleated tank dresses that echoed the ocean; crisp white cotton; textured rattans adorned with beads, mother of pearl and wood; and floral-printed quilted silk. It was all about achieving refined style using raw, earth-bound materials.

Gucci Westman of Lancôme and her team created the summery, healthy faces for the show. The look was French Beach Babe.

There was a natural warmth to the face that was created using Star Bronzer Poudre Sôleil in Bronze Dore, plus a little Magique Blush in Subtle Fluff on the cheekbone and Peach Melba in the center of the cheek

Brows were natural and pretty and Artliner in Noir was applied to top and bottom lashes, smudged and then Juicy Tubes in Pure was once again applied for a wet, undone look. Cils Design Pro Mascara was applied to the top lashes only.

Le Crayon Poudre brow pencil in Natural Blonde was used on the lips for a liner to make them have some definition. Juicy Tubes in Pure was slathered onto the lips for a high definition shine.

Reader Review: Vichy Aqualia Thermal

Vichy introduces an all-new line of moisturizing products formulated with thermal water: Aqualia Thermal. These products combine the benefits of Vichy Thermal Spa Water with active Hyaluronine, which is twice as effective as glycerine.

Women with sensitive skin will no doubt appreciate Aqualia Thermal’s hypoallergenic properties, as will those who are looking for a soothing skin treatment that works deep within the cells to effectively moisturize the skin.

Aqualia Thermal products come in a light cream for normal to oily skin, a rich cream for very dry or dehydrated skin and a serum for those who prefer a light texture and a pump applicator.

I asked Carol in Vancouver to try out the new Vichy line and give us her thoughts:

Name of product: Aqualia Thermal Cream Rich ($33 CAD)
What did you think of the look of the packaging: I liked the shape of the pot and freshness of the white and blue.
How did the product smell to you: Delicate. I do not like strong perfumed cream.
What did you think of the texture of the product: Just right.
How did your skin feel after first applying: My skin felt moist and pliable.
How did your skin look and feel after a couple of hours: Just the same. The moisture stays in.
How has your skin changed over the past 4 weeks: It does not get into the very flaky state it used to at the end of the day.
Overall thoughts on Vichy Aqualia Thermal Rich: It is the best cream I have used in a long time.
Would you buy it? Yes.

Name of product: Aqualia Thermal Serum ($37 CAD)
What did you think of the look of the packaging: Fresh and delicate.
How did the product smell to you: Hardly any smell, which I prefer.
What did you think of the texture of the product: Excellent. Easily absorbed.
How did you skin feel after first applying: My skin felt much more elastic.
How did you skin look and feel after a couple of hours: Just the same.
How has your skin changed over the past 4 weeks: It does not dry out so much.
Overall thoughts on Vichy Aqualia Thermal Serum: I use it in conjunction with Aqualia Thermal and like the feel of both products very much.
Would you buy it? Definitely.

Well there you have it. Carol obviously likes the products but do you? Have any of you tried them and if so what is your opinion?

Let's Hear it for the Breasts

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among Canadian women.

Breast cancer incidence is the number of new cases diagnosed in a population over a specific time period.

- In 2007, an estimated 22,300 women in Canada will be diagnosed with breast cancer. On average, that is about 429 women diagnosed every week.

- In 2007, an estimated 170 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Men with breast cancer make up a little less than 1% of all cases.

- In 2007, an estimated 5,300 women and 50 men will die from breast cancer.

Breast cancer prevalence is the number of people in a population living with breast cancer at a specific point in time.

- An estimated 162,600 Canadian women who were alive in 2003 had been diagnosed with breast cancer in the previous 15 years.

One in nine (11%) Canadian women is expected to develop breast cancer during her lifetime (this means by age 90), while less than 1% of Canadian men will be diagnosed with breast cancer.

Only one in every 27 Canadian women will die from breast cancer. This means that about two-thirds of the women diagnosed with breast cancer in Canada will live through it.

There is more cause to be optimistic. Since 1999, the incidence of breast cancer in Canada has stabilized. As well, since the mid-1980s, the number of people who die from breast cancer has declined steadily. The biggest improvement in survival has been in the 50 – 69 age group. Higher survival rates have been attributed to improved screening and treatment.

Second Annual Women of Worth Program

Voting for the 2007 L'Oreal Paris Woman of Worth has begun. Meet the 13 honorees and find out how these women are making a difference in their communities. Read their stories. And vote for the woman you find most worthy.

The Women of Worth initiative is inspired by L’Oréal Paris’ iconic brand philosophy, “Because You’re Worth It,” and recognizes the achievements of real women who embody the spirit of the L’Oréal brand - women who possess self-confidence and are committed to distinguishing their own lives by making a difference in the lives of others.

“The four simple words ‘Because You’re Worth It’ continue to serve as the inspiration for the L’Oréal Paris community,” said Carol J. Hamilton, President, L’Oréal Paris. “We’re thrilled to be honoring these thirteen amazing women from all across the country for their dedication to their communities.”

The Women of Worth National Honoree will receive a $25,000 donation in her name to her associated non-profit organization. All 13 Women of Worth honorees will be publicly recognized at the CNN Inspire Summit.

The online voting runs through to October 15.
