Save Your Hands This Winter

I am currently having a bit of a challenge with chapped hands - ouch! It never seems to fail that at this time of year my hands get really dry and tight and basic lotions won't work. Well I have found my solution - Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Intensive Moisturizing Hand Treatment.

After I wash my hands, first thing in the am and last thing at night I have been apply this fast-absorbing gel cream and honestly my hands are back to be soft, supple and healthy. I don't know what is in the hand cream but it does not leave any greasiness and it has a unusual but pleasant scent - like a herb of some sort.

When I mentioned to my Mother that I was using this cream, she excited told me that my Grandmother was always a huge fan of Elizabeth Arden and used one of her hand creams and loved it.

I guess I am following the family tradition!

Now There's A Priceless Way To Help Women Fighting Cancer

Hair loss can strike an especially crippling blow to women fighting cancer. Pantene Pro V have partnered with the Canadian Cancer Society to launch Pantene Beautiful Lengths, a campaign that encourages people to grow, cut and donate their hair to create free, real-hair wigs for women who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment.

Pantene Beautiful Lengths launched in 2006 in the USA to incredible success. The inaugural year of the campaign collected over 17,000 ponytails that were donated to make wigs for women battling cancer. This year Hillary Swank is the new spokesperson for the cause and cut her hair on the Oprah Show. Why did she decide to be a part of this cause? "I've had a lot of people in my life, loved ones and friends who have been devastated by cancer," Swank says. "I'm really thankful for my health and I wanted to find a way to give back."

Just before cutting her hair Swank shared "I've been growing it for the last six months to donate my hair. I've been taking a lot of vitamins and taking really good care of it, knowing that it would go to a woman in need."

As Pantene Beautiful Lengths wigs are created, they are distributed for free through the Canadian Cancer Society’s national network of community offices. Women facing cancer can find out about the availability of these wigs by calling the Canadian Cancer Society at 1 888-939-3333. The Society’s toll free line can also provide callers with access to many resources, including information about cancer and emotional support for those dealing with the disease.

In addition to providing free, real-hair wigs to women in need, Pantene has donated one hundred thousand dollars to the Canadian Cancer Society in support of cancer research, to show its commitment to the fight against cancer.

Donating your hair is a heartfelt and life-changing act of women's cancer and breast cancer support.

Roses are Red...Your Skin Shouldn't Be

Are you prone to redness in your face? Some individuals are affected by persistent redness that causes blotchiness and discomfort, like Rosacea. Others, like myself, have the type of skin that reacts to the cold weather, food, wine, allergies or just plain embarrassment, leaving us looking a bit like a cherry.

The fabulous people at Clinique want to help us with that not-so-lovely rosy glow and have developed Redness Solutions, a skincare regime formulated specifically for easily reactive skin.

This new skincare line works to provide your skin with the best defense against redness and itchiness, and overtime you'll see a real difference.

Soothing Cleanser
This extremely gentle, non-foaming, soft cream-gel contains ingredients like Squalane, Caffeine and Oat Extract to carefully cleanse the skin without disturbing the skin's natural moisture balance.

Daily Relief Cream
A hydrating cream that is appropriate for skins with persistent redness and contains a complex of White, Yellow and Red Tea to calm and sooth skin. It has a slight green tint that acts immediately to quell visible redness and blotchiness, while soothing to cool discomfort. Over time, this formula will improve the skin's overall comfort.

Urgent Relief Cream, anti-itch cream
This moisturizing treatment for skins with occasional or reactive redness provides immediate relief from reactions, including flare-ups triggered by weather, pollution and allergens. It quickly calms itchy, irritated skin and strengthens it against further irritation.

Daily Protective Base SPF 15
This gentle formula protects and primes skin in one easy step. Sunscreens and antioxidants produce the protection that is so important for reactive skin, while its green tint immediately helps lessen the look of redness and irritation.

All Redness Solutions products are oil free, 100% fragrance free and allergy tested. This line will be hitting the shelves this December.

Balmshell Me Baby!

I just love Balmshell and their fun and funky 'floating art' lipglosses (article). Now you can enjoy THREE of these magnificent products in the “Holts-aholic” gift set ($59.99 CAD).

With the emphasis on retail therapy, Balmshell have included three lip-luscious shades in this set. Their most popular shade Shop-aholic, a baby pink, is the main feature, with the artwork resembling a delightful Holt Renfrew store front. Thus it is aptly named “Holts-aholic”.

It also includes Shoe Fetish, a sheer fuchsia shade and Curse of the Purse, a neutral peach shade.

What a fantastic gift for that BBF of yours that adores a little gloss or... is a shopaholic.

They are available at Holt Renfrew stores across Canada.

Back from LA

I am back in Toronto and back to the cold. Los Angeles was so lovely and warm and I am missing it already.

What did I do out there? I arrived on Tuesday evening in LA with the Deputy Editor of Wish Magazine, Associate Editor of Elle Canada, the Managing Editor and a writer from Women's Post. We traveled to our hotel - the stunning Beverly Wilshire Hotel and turned in so that we could rest up for the following day.

After a tasty breakfast we gathered around the brand new 2008 Malibus that were provided for us to drive down to Malibu - I loved the hybrid which drove like a dream and is environmentally friendly.

At the Veronica Skin & Body Care Center I enjoyed a relaxing facial and an Omnilux Red treatment, followed by a makeup application using Jane Iredale mineral makeup.

Lunch was at Geoffrey's Malibu overlooking the calm blue water. My gourmet Kobe burger was so delicious - I can still remember the taste!

Then it was back into the Malibus and onto the highway, through the Malibu Canyon and down Sunset Boulevard back to the hotel.

I had a whirlwind trip and it was fantastic!! I will be reviewing my spa treatments on in the next week so check that out.

A big thank you to GM, Veronica, Geoffrey's, The Beverly Wilshire and my fellow participants!
